Theo Niermeijer was a Dutch sculptor, painter, graphic artist, installation artist, and architect. He studied in Amsterdam and Antwerp, then in Warsaw. He had studios in Amsterdam and northern France.
Niermeijer was an artist who worked with metal. He used copper and zinc to create engravings, as well as iron and stainless steel for his sculptures. The effect of time on the material—through oxidation—was an essential means of expression for him. By deliberately exploiting rust and the effects of rainwater on metal and paper, he created unique “rust drawings”—a technique that reflects his fascination with time, transience, and nature. His paintings (Ferro prints) and reliefs were also made from metal (oxides).
