LEMAIRE (Madeleine) (1845-1928) - Lot 195
LEMAIRE (Madeleine) (1845-1928) French painter, watercolorist and woman of letters. L.A.S., addressed to Marya Freund, famous singer, s.l.n.d. 2 pages in-8 oblong, brown ink, old central fold, small marginal lack without affecting the text. Good condition. Charming autograph letter from Madeleine Lemaire, a major figure in Parisian artistic life during the Belle Époque, addressed to the singer Marya Freund. The artist warmly thanks her correspondent for the memory of a concert and expresses her admiration for her voice: "Thank you for your beautiful memory..." then goes on to praise her talent and voice: "so happy to have you back... full of youthful voice..." The letter also recalls a recent concert and the pleasure of hearing the singer, offering a vivid account of the relations between Parisian artistic and musical circles at the turn of the century. This correspondence is of particular interest because of the prestige of the two names: Madeleine Lemaire, a famous salonnière and close friend of Marcel Proust, and Marya Freund, a great voice of the operatic repertoire. An attractive piece for a collection combining fine art, music and the social life of the Belle Époque.
