LE ROY, Georges (1885-1965) - Lot 192
LE ROY, Georges (1885-1965) French actor. Member of the Comédie-Française from 1919 to 1941. Professor at the Conservatoire from 1929 to 1955; his students included Gérard Philipe. Author of a diction method. Autograph letter signed, to a lady. Eygalières (Bouches-du-Rhône), September 29, 1955. 1 folio page (2/3 p.), blue ink. Charming letter addressed to a correspondent from Provence: "I am detained in Provence by some work." Le Roy asks her to give the General Secretary the enclosed coupon for the revival of La Mort de Pompéi, which has just reached him: "...the enclosed coupon for the revival of 'Death of Pompeii'". and concludes with a handwritten courtesy note, followed by his signature. An interesting piece relating to the theatrical and institutional activities of a member of the Comédie-Française in the 1950s.
