JANNET (Pierre). Born in Saint-Germain-de-Graves. 1820-1870. - Lot 177
JANNET (Pierre). Born in Saint-Germain-de-Graves. 1820-1870. Bookseller-publisher, took over the Silvestre bookshop. With the help of Ternaux-Compans, he published the Bibliothèque elzévirienne, an elegant collection of French authors from the XVIᵉ century. L.A.S. "Jannet". Paris, May 17, 1853. 3 pp. in-8 on letterhead of "Maison Silvestre - established in 1794 rue des Bons-Enfants, 28. - P. Jannet, successeur", with excerpts from a catalog of price-marked books in the left margin. Pierre Jannet asks Mr. Fossard of the Bibliothèque publique to make him a copy of the manuscript "Les Quinze joies de mariage" for publication. In exchange and by way of thanks, the publisher offers his correspondent "the proofs, as well as a plate of J. Dumoulin's mark", specifying that he is only the depositary of the marks appearing in the Manuel du Libraire, "the others, in small numbers, belong to M. Silvestre...". Joint: 3 L.A.S. "François" [M. François, auctioneer in Paris]. Paris, March 13 and July 22, 1857, July 5, 1859, addressed to P. Jannet (?). 11 pp. in-8 on fine paper, concerning public sales being prepared by M. François; the latter makes a point of extolling the profits he could make by putting a certain number of his books up for public sale: "I am currently writing the catalog of the late M. Gressac's books, curator of the Poitiers Library - the sale of which will take place in May and last 15 days. The name will be on the catalog of his collection, which is very interesting and curious, combined with the reputation of this skilful bibliophile, promise certain success for this sale. As Normandy is poorly represented, I offer you to add 20 to 25 pounds to those in it...".
