HALÉVY (Ludovic) (1834-1908) - Lot 170
HALÉVY (Ludovic) (1834-1908) French novelist, playwright and librettist, Offenbach's collaborator and co-author of Carmen. L.A.S. "Lud Halévy", dated Montgeron, August 2 [no year], addressed to a confidante. 2 pages in-8 oblong, brown ink, fine, tight handwriting, good overall condition with old folds. Beautiful autograph letter with lively content, mixing personal news, social relations and artistic concerns. Halévy mentions Porel, Koenig and Mlle Senard in particular, in a context of discussions and appointments, probably linked to the theatrical or musical world: "the debate is between Porel and Koenig..." The letter bears witness to the playwright's relational and professional life in Parisian artistic circles at the end of the XIXᵉ century. The name Ludovic Halévy, linked to Bizet, Meilhac and Offenbach, gives this piece a definite appeal for collectors of literature and stage history.
