DUVERGIER DE HAURANNE, Prosper - Lot 144
DUVERGIER DE HAURANNE, Prosper (1798-1881), journalist, publicist and politician. L.A.S., Paris, July 16, 1 p. in-8. Interesting letter of recommendation addressed to an unnamed correspondent, in favor of the son of one of his close friends, on the eve of his baccalaureate exam. The author writes in particular: "the son of one of my best friends, Mr. Ferd. Lamare who is about to take his baccalaureate exam". and solicits the benevolent support of his addressee from the examiners: "say a word in his favor to Mr. Leclerc, to Mr. ..., to Mr. Saisset". A fine example of the network of intellectual and political influence under the July Monarchy/Second Empire, revealing the practices of social recommendation in cultivated Parisian circles. A contributor to Le Globe and La Revue des Deux Mondes, Duvergier de Hauranne frequented the grand salons and literary circles where Victor Hugo, Stendhal and François Guizot met.
