DELANDINE (Antoine-François). Born in Lyon. 1756-1820. Lawye - Lot 131
DELANDINE (Antoine-François). Born in Lyon. 1756-1820. Lawyer, he had a brief political career during the Revolution. French man of letters. L.A.S. "Delandine" to Monsieur du Saulchoy. Lyon, October 30, 1813. 1 page in-4 (double leaf). Subscription with postmarks. BEAUTIFUL LETTER OF THANKS. Back from a ... long trip to the mountains of cidevant Forez, and on the banks of the Lignon, so celebrated by our ancient novelists; but where love no longer resides because all the celadons are in the camps... Delandine comes to thank du Saulchoy for a notice he devoted to his work on the manuscripts of the Lyon Library. ...It's like a rose crowning a field of thorns. You have infinitely flattered my heart by recalling my feeble work at the Constituent Assembly, and by announcing how much I would like to see all my colleagues honored. I have enjoyed their happiness, not leaving my homeland since the revolution, and having wanted to live only among books. Books are often quite mad; but at least the war they wage is not bloody... A lawyer at the Dijon and Paris Parliaments, and a deputy to the Estates General for Forez (Montbrison), Delandine published works of history and criticism, and wrote political works. After the Constituante, he left Paris for Lyon, where he became librarian of the Académie, before being appointed Curator of the Lyon Municipal Library (in 1803). He was tirelessly active, both in his numerous publications and his interest in political life. In 1804, he published the eighth edition of Chaudon's Dictionnaire historique des hommes célèbres, which he expanded by four volumes.
