CHAZAL (Jean-Pierre). Born in Pont-Saint-Esprit (Gard). 1766-1840. French politician. Conventionnel representative for Gard. Member of the Comité de Salut Public and the Conseil des Cinq-Cents. Member of the Tribunate, then Prefect. Exiled in January 1816, he returned to France after the July Revolution. L.A.S. "J.-P. Chazal". Mondens, March 23, 1835. 1 p. 2/3 in-4. Address. Postmarks. Chazal has many problems with his son Charles. The latter is said to have deceived his father with ... pretended studies in Pau, where all his time was spent in fredaines for which he was covered in debts... He would like Bascle to find out more. He had also sent his son some money and wanted to be sure that it hadn't ended up in the hands of unscrupulous loan sharks. If it did, he would realize his fortune in his portfolio.
