BAUDRILLART (Henri) (1821-1892) - Lot 72
BAUDRILLART (Henri) (1821-1892) Economist, journalist, member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques, professor at the Collège de France. L.A.S. "H. Baudrillart" to Jules Simon, dated April 29, 1863. 3 pages in-8, black ink on laid paper. Beautiful, long autograph letter to Jules Simon, then a politician, philosopher and academician, concerning an academic election and questions of votes and alliances. The contents are particularly interesting, as Baudrillart precisely outlines the balance of power between several candidates: "the debate is between Porel and Koenig". and details the support, departures and vote transfers surrounding the election. The letter cites several personalities from the intellectual and political world, including Jules Simon, Ducpétiaux, Michel Chevalier, and other influential academics and voters. This type of correspondence sheds remarkable light on the inner workings of academic elections in the XIXᵉ century, with a strong political dimension.
