BANVILLE (Théodore de) - Lot 53
BANVILLE (Théodore de) Born in Moulins (Allier). 1823-1891. Poet, playwright, precursor of Parnasse. 2 L.A.S. "Théodore de Banville" to Arsène Houssaye and Charles Buet. S.l., September 1, 1878. 2 pp. in-8. Tear and damp stain not affecting legibility of text. No doubt obliged by a money service from Houssaye, Banville promises ... a short story worth something... In 1878, asked to give his opinion on a certain subject, he said he preferred to do so in person, as what he wanted to say was too complicated to be expressed in a letter. Théodore de Banville is considered one of the most illustrious poets of his time, and was friends with Victor Hugo, Charles Baudelaire and Théophile Gautier. Arsène Houssaye (1814-1896) and Charles Buet (1846-1897) were French men of letters.
