BANVILLE (Théodore de) - Lot 50
BANVILLE (Théodore de) Born in Moulins (Allier). 1823-1891. Poet, playwright, precursor of Parnasse. Friend of Victor Hugo, Charles Baudelaire and Théophile Gautier. L.A.S. "Théodore de Banville" to "Mon cher poète". Villa de Banville near Lucenay-les-Aix (Nièvre), July 1, 1885. 2 pp. 1/3 in-12. Banville is in the country, where he has arrived unwell. ... I hope in the peace and fresh air to get back on my feet. I haven't got the Tubéreuses yet, which must have arrived in Paris. I'll arrange to have them sent to me. As for this luxurious gift, I should scold you for it! You are far too kind to have remembered my predilection for this delicious Casate chocolate [...]. But believe that the Tubéreuses will be read immediately with the most fraternal sympathy; and to be appreciated, didn't need the sweet that accompanies them!... This letter is probably addressed to Georges de Lys (pen name of Georges Fontaine de Bonnérive - 1855-1931), an officer and writer. In 1884, he published a collection of poems, Les Tubéreuses.
