Theo Niermeijer was a Dutch sculptor, painter, graphic artist, visual artist and architect. He studied in Amsterdam, Antwerp and Warsaw. He had a studio in Amsterdam and northern France.
Niermeijer was a metal artist. He used copper and zinc for his etchings, and iron and stainless steel for his sculptures. The action of time on matter through oxidation was for him an indispensable means of expression. By consciously using rust and the action of rainwater on metal and paper, he created unique "rust drawings", a technique that reflects his fascination with time, impermanence and nature. His paintings (Ferro prints) and reliefs were also created using metal (oxides).
