Frédéric NOY (Born 1965) Astana, Kazakhstan, May 30, 2021 Digital color print, dated, titled and signed in the margin, caption label on back 30 x 45 cm (40 x 50 cm) "On the steppe around the capital Astana, kokparshy, or Kokpar players, compete in an indescribable melee to seize the body of a headless goat. In the communal version of the game, up to 300 players compete and play for themselves. The tribes that descended from Genghis Khan spread their culture throughout Mongolia and Central Asia, but nowhere in this region is the contrast between the contemporary and the ancient greater than in Kazakhstan. And nowhere is the interplay between the two more clearly embodied than in the kokpar."
