Jean DESPRES (1889-1980) Modernist pewter covered pot with entirely hammered surface. The hemispherical body rests on a quadrangular base and receives a circular lid. The grip and handles, forming fins, are in Macassar ebony. Circa 1930. Used condition, the lid has been reworked and reduced around part of its perimeter, with minor dents and bumps, the quadrangular base has been re-welded in three places where it receives the body of the pot, missing fastening screws on the handles and grip, the existing screws have been replaced and are not original, the grip and handles are in poor condition, bears an apocryphal (non-original) DESPRES signature on the base.
