Fragment of a large harpoon point, with toggle and closed so - Lot 154
Fragment of a large harpoon point, with toggle and closed socket, decorated with linear motifs and incised lugs. The glazed polish and wear show that the object was long on the surface and polished by sand and other wind-borne abrasives. It may also have been used as an amulet after an accident. Eskimo populations, Alaska. Walrus tusk (Odobenus rosmarus divergens*) with a patina of age and use; the tip of the broken shaft is still lodged in the socket. Punuk period (500 - 900 A.D.). L. 13.1 cm. (Missing, worn and rubbed). * Odobenus rosmarus divergens: IUCN status: DD. CITES: Annex III
