Small ancestor effigy probably for shamanic use. The figure is shown standing with knees bent and drawn in. The torso is sculpted with broad shoulders but no arms. The head is set slightly back, with a haughty stance and a stylized face with prominent cheekbones. Eskimo populations, Alaska. Walrus tusk (Odobenus rosmarus divergens*) with a beautiful dark patina due to burial in permafrost and stigmata of age and use. Punuk/Thule period (circa 800-1500). H. 3.7 cm.
