Gata fighting club, representing the open mouth of a snake.
The inside of the curved striking head, carved in two sections, is adorned with an "au naturel" motif in which the sculptor artificially reproduces the relief of the original bark. The top crest is pierced three times to accommodate fiber ornaments and possibly shells. The pommel is flat with a slight corolla.
Fiji Islands, Polynesia.
Ironwood (casuarina equisetifolia) with a beautiful patina of age and use.
