Provenance: Yancey Richardson Gallery, New York Private collection, France In 2012, Alex Prager launched the "Compulsion" series, exploring the perception of tragedy. Each work combines a realistic image of a tragedy (accident, fire, crash) with a close-up of an eye expressing intense emotion. Inspired by the films of Douglas Sirk and the photographs of Enrique Metinides, Alex plays on confusion, leaving viewers to interpret the origin of emotions. This ambiguity raises the question of the reality of images and the reactions they provoke. Winner of the Paul Huf Award at the FOAM Museum, she accompanies her exhibitions with a short film entitled "La Petite Mort", extending her artistic reflection.
